Inspired by Karl Gerstner's multi-dimensional grid system, a fictional machine is created for exploring shapes and patterns. The successive superimposition of multiple grid levels quickly generates its own dynamic, transforming simple forms into complex shapes and visual noise.
The designer controls the generator by changing color and shape parameters, color blending functions, and the number of overlapping layers. The unpredictable products of the fictional machine are constantly evaluated and corrected against the parameters to maintain control over the final result.
