Yesterday’s Wisdom is an installation that aims to highlight the prevalence and influence of gender stereotypes and misogyny in our society. The installation consists of a webcam that captures the viewer’s image and converts it into ASCII art, which is then projected onto a wall. A collection of cross-stitch patterns with misogynistic messages is displayed above the ASCII code. Through the use of cross-stitch patterns, Yesterday’s Wisdom references an older, traditional art form that has been used to convey messages for centuries. However, by displaying these patterns alongside modern technology, the installation emphasizes the timelessness and enduring relevance of these messages. The project aims to raise awareness of the damaging effects of gender stereotypes and misogyny on our lives.
