Every individual’s emotions are highly subjective; they can be difficult to grasp and understand. Squaring Emotions is an attempt to make this subjectivity visible and comparable by means of an objective design system. From a predetermined categorization of emotions into joy, sadness, fear, anger, surprise, disgust, as well as secondary emotions, a coherent formal language emerges for each of the emotional spaces. Over a two-week period, mood pictures were created from forms and rules by four people. The core of the work is a book and a booklet printed in Riso that guides the viewer through the system of emotion models and the mood pictures of the four people.
