HAW Hamburg 2015
The 9th session of the lecture series Stilvorlagen. Design and Society revolves around the theme “upheaval.” The focus here is on digital publishing and the changing role of designers. Do digital media hinder individual forms of expression? Are graphic designers becoming software developers? And what makes these new challenges so exciting?
Our guests Jeremy Abbett, Constant Dullaart, Thomas Castro (LUST), Remco van Bladel, Martha Starke, Beathe Kapfenberger, Stephan Kurz, Kris Lüdemann, Dominik Krebs, and Robin Hinsch (Master Pieces) discuss the challenges that come with the evolving role of graphic design.
Each event is organized and accompanied by a student lecture group. This group is responsible for the conceptual and visual design of the preparation, workshops, posters, installation, interview, and lecture, which are all published as part of a joint publication.
The documentation for Stilvorlagen #9—a complex information and linking system—offers deep insight into all the behind-the-scenes work and design processes. The result is a glued paper block which, despite being printed in black and white, appears strikingly colorful thanks to the variety of paper tones used.
