Simone Schöler and Steffen Schumann of anschlaege.de often work in public spaces. For them, design serves as a voice for those who cross boundaries, provoke change, and give shape to their time. Inspired by their work, the students create typographic posters. Working in groups, they develop time-related commentaries using self-designed stencil typefaces, various backgrounds, and spray-paint techniques—sometimes influenced by Hamburg’s strong wind and a touch of sarcastic humor. The results range from spontaneous freehand actions to precisely cut shapes, producing numerous large- and small-format posters and series. The double meaning of Comments on Our Time is reflected not only in the sharp, witty texts but also in the technique itself—through the interplay of positive and negative forms as a core design principle.
